The course homepage is the first thing students will see upon entering your course. You have multiple options to choose from for your homepage. You can switch between these options by clicking “Choose Homepage” on the right sidebar and selecting one of the following options:

  • Course Activity Stream
    • Displays conversations, notifications, and interactions for the course
  • Pages Front Page
    • Custom page built by you
    • Page needs to be set as front page in the pages section first, which is discussed later
  • Course Modules
    • Lists all files, pages, and assignments that have been arranged into modules
  • Assignments
    • Lists all assignments, discussions, and quizzes for the course
  • Syllabus
    • Display the course overview and custom syllabus content
    • Displays assignments, discussions, quizzes and other graded materials

Course Navigation

You're able to customize the links that appear in the course navigation by clicking Settings > Navigation. Once in the navigation window, you can drag and drop links to change the order, and hide links from students by dragging them underneath where it says "Drag items here to hide them from students."

Hiding links from the course navigation can help prevent confusion for your students. For example, if you're arranging all of your course content into modules, much like this course is designed, it's advisable to hide the Pages link from your course navigation. This will ensure that students access materials in the relative order that they're supposed to and also don't get lost in the full list of all pages. Be sure to click Save after making changes to the course navigation to ensure that your changes are reflected in the course.
