Modules
Modules are used to organize course content or create a learning path for students. To get started with creating and viewing modules, click the Modules link on the course navigation.
Creating a Module
To create a module, click the + Module button in the upper right of the modules page.
You can lock a module until a certain date by checking the Lock until box and then selecting the date and time that you'd like the module to be available to students. You can also add prequisites to a module, which will prevent the module from being visible until another module has been completed. The prerequisite option will only be available if you have created at least two modules. You can always come back and add prereqs later.
Be sure to click the Add Module button to create your module.
Once a module is created, you can add a variety of content to it by clicking the + button to the right of the module heading.
You can select to add any of the following to your module from the Add dropdown:
- Assignment
- Quiz
- File
- Content page
- Discussion
- Text header
- External URL
- External tool (e.g.: Voicethread)
Once you select an item type, the items of that type that you have already created will be listed. You can either select a pre-existing item, or, you can select the [New…] option at the top of the list. If you haven't created any items of the type that you've selected, the new option will be the only option available. If you choose the “New…” option, be sure to fill in the blank fields that appear.

Click the Indentation dropdown if you wish to indent the item title in your module. Lastly, click the Add Item button to add the item you've chosen to your module.
Module Requirements
Once items have been added, you can add Requirements to the module, which lay out actions that students must complete in order to progress through the module. For example, you can require that a student must view a content page and score a certain score on a quiz in the module before moving to the next items.
Add a requirement by clicking the settings icon and selecting Edit.
Click the Add Requirement link. You'll notice that items must already be added to a module in order for requirements to be set up. You can then specify whether students must complete all of the requirements set, or only one. You also have the option to enforce students to progress through the requirements in sequential order; but this option is only available if you specify that students complete all of the requirements.
Select the item from the first dropdown, and then select the action that is required in the second dropdown. Repeat this process for additional requirements.

Click the Update Module button when you're done.
Module Organization and Publishing
You can rearrange items in a module by simply clicking and dragging them by the drag hand on the left into the order that you wish.

Be sure to publish your module by clicking the Publish icon to the right of the module heading. Clicking this publish icon will publish all of the items within a module. You can publish and unpublish individual items within the module if you wish. Students will not be able to see a module unless it is published.
If prerequisites or requirements have been created for a module, students will see a message notifying them of those prereqs or requirements in the modules when they view them.
